What is reprogramming a cash register?

Reprogramming a cash register is the process of transferring an already operational register to a new company name. This may be necessary if the business changes its legal form (receives a new tax number), or if you buy a second-hand register and wish to register it under your own company. This process can only be carried out by an authorized service provider.

What to watch out for when buying a second-hand cash register?

The most important aspect is the condition of the device – only consider purchasing a well-maintained register. Avoid dirty or worn-out devices, even if offered for free, as repair costs may be significant later.

You can check the device’s history and any malfunctions in the cash register logbook.

Make sure there are no outstanding debts from the previous owner to the mobile service provider. Any cash register service center can verify this for you.

Ensure that annual inspections have been performed regularly every year – this can also be checked in the logbook.

DO NOT BUY a second-hand register without a logbook!

What is required to reprogram a cash register (transfer it to a new company)?

• Reprogramming code – This must be requested from NAV (the Hungarian Tax Authority) by completing and submitting the PTGREG form through your company’s official customer portal. In response, you will receive a reprogramming code which you must bring printed, or send via email.
  
  ⚠️ IMPORTANT: The installation code is not valid – only the REPROGRAMMING CODE can be used.

• Invoice or documentation about the sale or donation of the cash register.

To create a new mobile data service contract, you will need the following documents:

For companies:

• Signature specimen

• Authorization letter (if someone other than the authorized signatory is handling the transaction).
  
  Fill out both the Mobil-Adat authorization form and the Telekom authorization form, and bring them with you to our service center.

• Personal ID of the individual signing the contract

For sole proprietors:

• Document certifying the sole proprietorship (entrepreneurial license or municipal certificate)

• Personal ID

How does the cash register reprogramming process work?

Reprogramming a cash register is a complex process that consists of multiple steps and varies by model. Depending on the model, the procedure may take as little as 1 hour or up to several days if the distributor’s help is required.

Steps:

1. We suspend the register’s use at NAV.

2. We back up all data previously entered by the former operator.

3. We return the backed-up data and the old logbook to the previous user.

4. We provide the necessary documentation to the previous owner to terminate their mobile data contract.

5. We perform the reprogramming of the register.

6. A new mobile data contract is created in the name of the new owner.

7. A new logbook is issued.

8. We provide training to the new owner on how to use the register.

How much does reprogramming a cash register cost?

The reprogramming fee consists of two parts:

• Suspension of the register: 5,000 HUF + VAT

• Reprogramming of the register: 25,000 HUF + VAT

Total cost: 30,000 HUF + VAT

This amount may change if annual inspections were missed or if the cash register is faulty and requires repair.
